Good Afternoon Running Brook Families,

It's been a great week at the Brook! On Wednesday evening we celebrated Running Brook's 50th birthday with over 120 in-person guests and many others tuned in via Facebook live. We had guest speakers including, Dr. Martirano and Mr. Todd as well as current and former students. The evening was a beautiful celebration of Running Brook's 50 years of success.

Mrs. Spivey & I want to thank Bess Caplan and the PTA for organizing the event. We could not have asked for a better night.

Grade 5 News
5th Grade Promotion is next Wednesday, June 9th, at 3:00 PM.  This is a virtual ceremony and we will use Google Meet code:  RBES Team 5

• Students are asked to wear their 5th grade T-shirts.
• We expect the ceremony to last about an hour.

Please plan to attend to CELEBRATE our students and wish them well as they prepare for middle school!

2021-2022 School Start and End Times

With the transition to hybrid instruction during spring 2021, school start and dismissal times were shifted by 20 minutes, to reflect the concurrent in-person and virtual learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the return to a normalized, fully in-person instructional program in fall 2021, and, with consideration for feedback provided by school staff and community stakeholders, the school bell schedule will return to the original, pre-COVID times for the 2021-2022 school year.

The 2021-2022 start and end times for each school are provided on the BoardDocs website. The HCPSS website and school websites will reflect 2021-2022 start times after the current school year concludes.

HCPSS plans to study start times and secondary scheduling options for the 2022-2023 school year, with special consideration for the possibility of a later high school start time, and will hire a consultant to conduct an extensive study to inform future planning.

Countdown to Summer
Media Books - There are 7 school days left! Please check your home for overdue media books. Media books can be returned by leaving them in the marked box at the school.

Returning HCPSS Devices – Students leaving HCPSS after the 2020-2021 school year must return their HCPSS technology devices. Students who will remain in HCPSS schools for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year may continue to borrow HCPSS technology devices over the summer.

HCPSS Title I Parent Survey
The Howard County Public School System's Title I Office receives Title I funds to provide additional support and resources to Title I Schools. The Title I Office supports family engagement through the implementation of its Parent, Family, and Community Involvement Plan and by providing schools with funds to support family engagement.  Please take a moment to complete the HCPSS Title I Parent, Family, and Community Involvement Input Survey, providing feedback on the district's Parent, Family, and Community Involvement Plan and parent involvement funds.

Summer Slugger
Help stop summer slide and satisfy young baseball fans! The Orioles have partnered with Everfi to offer Summer Slugger, a free game-based learning program with online math and reading challenges designed for students entering 4th and 5th grades. Learn how to sign up for this fun and engaging program. 

This class has been prerecorded. You will receive the link to the online class with confirmation of your registration. If you miss this class, past classes are posted on the Howard County Library System YouTube channel Playlists. 

Howard County Conservancy Nature Preschool

• The Conservancy is excited to be Howard County’s first Nature Preschool for ages 3-5, in mixed age group settings! Nature abounds with opportunities for our earliest learners. Location: Belmont Manor and Historic Park, Elkridge, MD
• Fall Enrollment Opening: March 25, 2021
• The nature preschool scholarship application for the 2021-2022 school year is posted.  If you are able to help us get the word out to families needing assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
