Spotlight Mathematician
This week’s Spotlight Mathematician is Tiffany Dorsey, mother of Matthew in kindergarten.  Mrs. Dorsey is a molecular biologist!  She was on the math team in high school and thinks that students may be surprised to know that math can be a team competition.

She uses basic math, ratios, dilutions, concentrations, statistics and graphs every day to run experiments and interpret the data.  She also thinks mathematics is a powerful subject because there are generally different correct ways to figure out a solution.  This means that you can double-check your own work by trying a problem in two different ways and coming up with the same answer.

COMMUNITY NEWS

New Bedding Drive
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a 501c3 charity that uses donations and volunteers to build and deliver beds to kids that don’t have their own bed, and are usually sleeping on floors, sofas, or in beds with other family members. The local Howard County chapter (www.facebook.com/shphowardcounty) is building 25 bunkbeds on June 15th, getting 50 more kids into their own beds. Several of our RBES families will be receiving a beds!

Our school is helping by conducting a bedding drive! All beds are delivered with new sheets and comforters. Can you help with a donation of a sheet set, comforter or both? All bedding MUST be NEW and TWIN size, and should be targeted towards ages 3 to 17. Please drop off new bedding in the large plastic bin in the foyer in front of the office.   Please help if you can. Collected bedding frees up donated funds for more lumber and mattresses, helping get more kids off the floor! If you don’t have time to shop, but would like to help, you can make a monetary donation at weblink.donorperfect.com/md-howardco.

If your kid doesn't have a bed go to www.shpbeds.org/request-bed, and fill out the form

Looking for Great Summer Camps?  Looking for a way to pay for them?

The following camps offer scholarships for income qualified families:
Howard Community College's Kids On Campus has scholarships that will fully fund a week of camp for income qualified students.  They do not provide transportation and students must meet behavioral expectations.  These are terrific camps. I would treat my kids to one week cause they are $$$$.  If you can qualify and they fit your schedule I would encourage you to do so.  They have quite a bit of money set aside for these scholarships, take advantage!  Below are the links to the program information and the scholarship forms.
