Parent/Teacher Conferences

Conferences will be held on Monday, November 19th and Tuesday, November 20th.
Conferences are scheduled via HCPSS Connect. Click here to view instructions. If you do not have access to the internet you may call the school and one of the secretaries will be happy to schedule a conference for you.
Parent teacher conferences are a time to express any questions or concerns you may have concerning your child. Please make every effort to come in for a parent teacher conference.

Coffee and Conversation- Friday, November 16th at Noon

  • Mrs. Brewrink will discuss report cards and student-led conferences.
  • Mrs. Shaffer, our Reading Support Teacher, will provide an overview of the new writing program and the Language Arts curriculum, as well as online resources that are available.
  • Mrs. Mulroe, our Math Support Teacher, will discuss Dreambox and other resources for practicing facts and helping your student with math homework.
  • Valerie Mathis, Office of Community Resources and Services, will discuss resources and supports that are available through the Multi Service Center.

*Add to the excitement by having lunch with your student and
cheering him or her on during the Turkey Trot.

2018- 2019 RBES Spelling Bee

  • Open to all 4th and 5th grade students
  • ELA class Spelling Bees will be completed by January 4th. Practice packets will be provided.
  • The top two winners from each ELA class will advance to the school-wide bee.
  • The school-wide bee will occur on January 11th at 2:30 in the cafeteria, with a snow date of January 18th.
  • The winner of the school-wide bee and one alternate will go onto the county-wide bee at River Hill on March 8th (snow date of March 9th).

RBES 10th Annual Turkey Trot

What: The 10th Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run/Race
Who: All Running Brook Elementary students, staff, and families who wish to join us.
Where: Around RBES
When: Friday, November 16th, 2018
12:30-1:00 Kindergarten
1:00-1:30 1st Grade
1:30-2:00 2nd Grade
2:00-2:30 3rd Grade
2:30-3:00 4th Grade
3:00:3:30 5th Grade

You are invited to the 10th Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run!  This event will occur during the afternoon on November 16th. (See schedule above).  Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students will participate in a fun run around the school building.  3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be participating in a competitive fun run. Winners will be announced on the morning announcements with Mr. Esposito & Mrs. Brewrink. Volunteers are needed! If you’d like to assist, please email Mr. Hiel at Kory_Hiel@hcpss.org Mr. McCoy at Justin_McCoy@hcpss.org. If you would like to volunteer or participate in the run/walk, please sign-in in the front office before meeting us outside on the field. We hope to see you there!

   RBES 2nd Annual Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe

Mark your calendars because the Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe is less than a month away! On Thursday, December 6th, (5:30-8:00 pm) students will have the opportunity to prepare for the holidays by shopping for their loved ones!  Staff will assist your children as they pick out that "perfect" gift, while parents have the opportunity to do some shopping in the cafeteria, visiting several local vendors and crafters!  

More information about this event will come home before Thanksgiving break.

BOOK FAIR IS COMING!!!

The Fall book fair will be held in the Media Center on Monday November, 19th and Tuesday November, 20th from 1pm – 8pm. Come see all the new book titles and help raise funds for our wonderful school!

Carson Scholarship

The Carson Scholars Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4 -11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Our school has the opportunity to nominate one student who has earned at least a 3.75 GPA for the current school year and is involved in community service activities.

If your student is interested in submitting an essay to be considered for nomination, please review the criteria by visiting https://carsonscholars.org/scholarships/prospective-scholars/and submit an essay to Mrs. Finkelstein by Thursday, November 15th. A committee of Running Brook staff members will select the most qualified candidate to nominate.

Essay Topics:

  1. What do you think is the hardest part of being a kid?  How could you make this difficult part of your life easier?
  2. Share the advice that you would give to a friend going through the same thing.
  3. “The things that make me different are the things that make me me.” – Winnie the Pooh
  4. Share something that makes you different from other people you know.  How might your difference help you to achieve your goals?

Young Authors' Contest

All students in grades 2-5 are invited to enter a poem or short story for the State of Maryland Literacy Association's Young Authors' Contest.  Guidelines and cover forms have been sent home to students.  All entries are due to Running Brook by December 14th.  Please contact Mrs. Shaffer, Mrs. Armellino or Mrs. James if you have any questions.
